  • So it's wine Wednesday and I'm wandering the deepest depths of the wine cellar, totally lost and my candle nearly burnt out so I grabbed the closest thing at hand and quickly retreated towards the light in the tunnel. Ok, so some of that may be fiction, but make no mistake, this 1996 Steven Kent Cabernet is LEGIT. Beautiful translucent garnet color with a medium body and vibrant acidity, it uniquely hints at the era of it's vinification. Showing strong secondary notes on the nose and palate, the elegance of this wine is unmatched by today's more extracted creations. Beautiful Cassis and mouth watering red fruit still show it's youthfulness while that earthy, mentholated sous bois takes over in the finish with just a satisfying hint of sweet oak liquor present in the slight tannins. If I have to live through my own groundhog day, I hope it involves this wine. Btw, that old school label!
