Clear med ruby. Clean dusty dark berry nose, hint of red liquorice. Palate has a lovely pepper and dark berry combo, med + acidity, med +tannin. Long interesting finish, still developing. Wish I had the discipline to have left it for a couple more years. Very nice now but it will only get better.
On day 1. Very fresh, light bodied, good acidity, lots of pepper.
Didn't taste on day 2 but today on day 3 (kept under cork in fridge) very expressive nose of red meat and leather, more refined peppery notes than day 1. As a Burgundy lover, this is my style of wine, lots of acidity and elegance. Very nice for it's level and price. 88 for now, and given development over the past days, there is room for improvement over the next couple of years. Charming little northern Rhône wine! (extra point awarded for value)
At City Social: smoky, sweet syrah fragrance, this had more than a touch of cote rote about it, started off quite delicate and delightful, but got tougher as we went down the bottle. But I'll seek this out.
I preferred this unpretentious Syrah to the (2011) wines alongside from more illustrious terroirs (St Joseph/Cornas.) Black pepper and concentrated, juicy blackberries. Silky texture. Nothing too serious, yet rather delicious! 91-92
