  • Melvyn's 50th Birthday Bash (Hua Ting, Orchard Hotel): In magnum, this was beautifully youthful and very good indeed. The nose was quite reticent to start off, but there was a beautiful Puligny character to its bouquet, with little dollop of cream over gentle aromas of white flowers and sweet white fruit framed by chalky hints. Lovely. The palate was stunningly youthful, coming across almost tightly clenched, with lots of sweet lemony citrus and fresh acidity giving the wine a real sense of energy and verve. It was only the slightly rounded, mellower tones on the midpalate, with sweet ripe apples and peach flavours, that hinted at the wine’s age. There was a lot to admire here. Great finish too – long, insistent, with citrussy lemons spiked with lovely mineral tones and the littlest nutty hint. This was very good indeed. A very complete wine that seems as though it will need all of another decade, at least in a magnum format, to really hit its stride.

  • The last of several bottles I've enjoyed over the years. Unfortunately there's not much left at this time. Nice aroma of honey intertwined with minerals but lacks fruit leaving it somewhat flat and uninteresting on the palate.

  • Pretty while still being golden in color. In comparison to a bottle we had earlier this year the nose on this was far more intense and complex showing hay, ripe golden delicious apples, pie crust and toasted nuts. The texture was rich and very supple. Elegant combinations of fresh apples, pears, nuts, sweet pie crust and baking spices made for a terrific wine. Was at once both explosive and reserved. Just what one would hope to expect from vintage, vineyard and producer. Paired very well with an angel hair pasta of sautéed favas, chantrelles and butter poached lobster.

  • Still plenty of thump in this wine. While there was definitely some honey overtones to the lemony aromatics there was more than enough fruit gusto to carry the day. Round and ripe in the mouth with a baked pear/peach quality to the fruit mixed in with notes of vanilla and honey. The finish had a slight chalkiness to it that definitely detracted from the overall length of the wine. Still a very well composed and emminently drinkable older Puligny.

  • At restaurant Tante Kee, a Burgundy tasting a long time ago with the start of the life of this wine; very pure and concentrated at the age of two with already a noticeable good balance.
