Dense ripe aromatics with cassis and red/black fruit. Full body, med- acid, med+ tannin. This wine is a powerhouse. It’s big in a lot of ways but the alcohol sticks out a bit. It may come together with air but it’s definitely potent. Drink now and over the next 10 years.

Big nose, plum (prune), clay, offering some initial promise. Really hot with bitter tannin in the mouth. Oof - woefully overdone on the palate. ~85 points

California Wine Weekend; 12/1/2023-12/3/2023 (Mos Eisley Cantina & Waterhouse Restaurant): Large scaled, brooding and earthy cabernet. Lots of mineral, plum, sage, cassis and lavender notes. Palate is mouth filling, but not overly dense. For all of its largesse it does have a degree of restraint that tightens everything up in the finish with acidity. A lot of dark tannin here that forms a backbone that the fruit hangs on nicely.
The power of the vineyard is forefront, there is a touch of heat at this stage, but not bad. Love the detail behind the black fruited veil.

Gorgeous wine! I let this slow-O for 8 hours, then double decanted and let sit for another 3 hours prior to serving. The nose was beautiful, the palate was broad and supple with an encompassing long finish. Amazing tannin structure for an 18 year old wine. Great balance with acid holding things in check. A true Wow wine. Drank this alongside the 2009 Thorevilos. Very similar vineyard fruit charteristics, but the 2001 felt a little more extracted and high octane. Perhaps that was the vintage effect of 2001, or perhaps the winemaking style had changed a bit between the two vintages. In the end, I think I preferred the 2009 by a hair.
