Notes from day 1, bottle open for about an hour. Light salmon color. Nose of melon rind, funk, strawberry, herbs. Palate of tart strawberry, unripe peach, funky cheese, minerals, white pepper. The finish was above average in length with nice acidity. Overall the wine was solid as always. Drink: 50+5+12+17+6 4
Even better than our last bottle, and required less air to strut its stuff. Just ridiculous aromas of wild strawberry, fresh herbs, tangerine citrus, and saline minerals. Equally complex, explosive, and vivid on the palate, with textured wild red berry fruit, orange peel, fresh mint, and subtle hints of earth. Gorgeous, creamy minerals drive the lengthy finish. An exquisite rose. Drink or hold.
On the pop and pour this was a bit uninspiring. Revisited several hours later, however, the wine that emerged was stunning and interesting. Really bright, intellectual nose of dried citrus peel, tart wild berries, funky underbrush, and fresh grass. The palate is filled with juicy, brambly fruit, red berries, orange citrus, and melange of finishing florals and fresh herbs. Excellent, drink or hold.
Blind Tasting @ Weygandt (Weygandt Wines - Washington, D.C.): Copper colored. Very peppery on the nose, with strawberries, earth, a kind of funky goat cheese aspect. Crisp acid and silky body form the palate, with notes of saline, pepper and green herbs. Tangy and lively, this is one good pink. Pure and fresh and unique.
