Two years after my first note on this wine, I revisit with different results: Decanted 1 hr. ahead. Medium cherry-garnet color. Nice nose of flowers followed by spices. Medium-light on the palate, very pleasant, with cherry-berry flavors, all in the red-fruit range but with a certain bass note of extraction, barely there. Medium-light on the palate as well; this wine can fulfill that elusive category: a red that's fragrant and interesting, and goes great with food. Finishes with light grip, low tannins, and a bit of ink. This wine not only causes me to rethink my impresssion of this winery; it's also one of the better bottles that I have had from this venerable old vineyard.

This is a Lodi take on an ancient Lodi vineyard. Garnet color with lots of purple. Nice but shy nose of red berries, dried herbs. Light to medium body on the palate, with lively but not tart acidity and flavors of pine and spices, with some alcoholic heat. The latter carries through to the finish, which is quick with some grip and about zero tannins. A pleasant bottle that compares favorably to the Turley version of this wine. The present version is more extracted, with somewhat higher alcohol, and it's a bit richer, but with heat. Overall, very enjoyable.

128 year old vineyard (1885). Light ruby color. Medium nose of light red cherry, raspberry, pepper, roses, crushed lavender. Palate shows lots of fruit layers, candied raspberry, red cherry, sour red cherry, strawberry, caramel, vanilla, molasses. Very tasty. Medium light tannins. Pinot drinkers would love this.

Like other Michael-David wines I've tried - juicy and interesting. Very enjoyable. Strangely, I thought it was better *without* food.
