on initial opening, the nose showed bright red fruits and spice, more like a Rhone wine than Bordeaux. The wine was a good ruby red with no browning or tannin deposits, and the nose slowly developed some cedary, spicy oak, darker fruits and tobacco. On the palate, it was light to medium bodied, and lacked some depth and intensity. It took some time to show more depth, and I left it in a decanter for a few hours to help it develop. Some inky, pencil lead and smoky fruit characters started to show through but it was never a complex or intense wine. I was a little underwhelmed but it is a pleasant wine without any pretentions of greatness and went well with beef.

Opened up and gained more weight after 1.5 hour decant. Dark fruits, toast, choc, tannin, graphite at first, then turned mineral and saline that will keep this wine for another 10 years easily.

Tasted next to 2015. Dark fruit, spices, tobacco, green pepper on the nose. On the palate not very generous, simple and a bit thin. Bright acidity, slightly angular tannins, medium length. 85-87

MW Institute 2012 Bordeaux Tasting: Herbal and chocolate notes. Lacks in interest and length on the palate. Rather mediocre.
