The vineyards of this estate were established in 1864. 1992 was the first vintage that the Wight family began producing their own wine.We opened this next to a 1992 Laurel Glen Cab which was corked. This bottle has seen better days. Most of the fruit has faded and the notes centered on oak, chocolate and wet earth. 82 points.

The cork was slightly depressed on this one. Fill levels were good, but it did fade quite quickly and had a distinctly sweet aftertaste. Bouquet was not as rich, overall the bottle I had earlier in the year performed much better.

Deep garnet color with just a hint of brown on the edge. Clear perfume of crushed blackberries, cherries and cigar box. Difficult to believe this is over 20 years old. Medium acidity, still some structure here.

Cork was beautiful. I got some porty, stewed plum nose/palate - thought it might be cooked - but there was no evidence to support that. Decanted into a glass pitcher, soften up was more palatable -- maybe just old and over the hill? Worth the $15 flyer, but wouldn't go there again. NR

Dinner with Friends (Reserve 22, Glen Ellyn): Courtesy of VM. Dark and plummy, with bouillon overtones. Black fruit on the palate, but also a bit maderized.
