Berry and stone fruit, but with a lighter feel and less complex than other vintages. Still decent structure and tannic backbone. Hint of vanilla on the finish. Did not detect the 'green' characteristics that some have reported. Perhaps this vintage has taken a bit longer to develop.
Drank at a friend's house; this had come directly from the wi Rey in Napa. COW TOWN's note from early 2014 nailed it...in a feel words, "not very good"! Green, and unripe, with notes of bell peppers, green herbs, mint, eucalyptus, and moss. Not much fruit and what little there is, is green, and completely overwhelmed by the greenery. The host had had earlier vintages which he said were very good and he too was disappointed in the results of this vintage. Too bad as Oakville generally produces outstanding Cabernets!
Nose of dark berries. Inky dark color. Notes of black cherry, bramble fruits, currants, with medium tannins. Alcohol is 14.9%, but drinks like a 13.5%. Very nice effort. Wish I'd picked up more than one.
This did not resemble any of the prior vintages of Hoopes wine I have had. It was not rich or lush, but instead was green - green pepper, eucalyptus, and herbs. Not very enjoyable. I hope my other bottles return to form.
