An ethereal experience even now though quite young. Super delicate, fresh aromas of strawberry, pomegranate, cherry and a whiff of orange zest come through in a powdery-like impression with violets, rose, pepper, cinnamon, mineral and dusty soil tones. Super fine and perfumed in the mouth, crunchy and fresh with notable acidity. Beautifully pure and becomes more vivid with air time.
Dinner with Gavin at Bistrode: Opened about 2.5 hours prior and had closed up a bit since. Rhubarb, cherry, stem and blood - quite dark fruited and tight. Palate is also tight but had good balance and length. Give it time.
Four 2012 Mugniers (Dig Wines, San Francisco): Light red (a tone lighter than the Nuits). Faint floral tones. Tart red and black fruit in a lightweight package infused with a fine coating of soil. Unusual fishy component in the mid-palate. Slightly briary finish, again average acidity. Compared to outperforming vintages of this cuvee such as 2002, I was not moved by this and actually preferred the Nuits.
