Bottle was well-past prime, but found it in a mixed case of 97 California Cabs. I don't believe this was ever spectacular, but after 17 years was pretty anemic, with little fruit and pale burgundy color. The nose was small but still good.
Best showing yet for this bottling. Expressive and pure Napa nose. Lots of cassis and blackberry fruit. Bottom-heavy mouthfeel, but a soft landing on the finish. Some interesting smoky notes on the edges. Drink now through 2010.
Huge surprise. I had bought this when I first got into wine back in 2000...big buy for me then, at the mid $20s, from the expensive wall of wines at Cost+ World Market!!! Taken to dinner at Steve and Teddie's ...Bdx was theme..Well, this showed amazingly well. Some bricking, but the fruit was still there, if with secondary characteristics, dry cherry, still good tannins, but smooth. I don't know how much life left in this, but it is a very nice bottle right now. Kinda cool for a bottle that had got lost in the cellar.
