  • Terroir: Molto chiuso, sa di agrumi, un po' di ferro, salino. La bocca convince poco, scivola via su acidità troppo scorbutica per essere apprezzata.

  • Nose of Italian nebbiolo, and the palate reveals that is more of a mountain nebbiolo. Just great fruit and acidity and wonderful with a rich duck confit and carmelized onion risotto that I made. Cut through it like a knife, and cleansed your palate with every sip.

  • Floral nose with soft tar as usual, and earthiness. As the wine develops over 2.5 hrs it is chewy, good tartness, clean taste, and leathery quality about it. As we neared end of bottle (last one!) some tannins started kicking in. I think 13 or so years was about right for this Carema, since it still is wonderful, but I wonder if it had a lot more life (in other words, I guessing that it might be ready to start sliding down the slope, off its peak.

  • floral nose with soft tar and some mushroom notes. The palate is chewy, still great tartness, medium fruit, clean taste overall with leathery notes. Tannins give a bit of bite at the end.

  • Matches the last couple of phenomenal bottles -- Even right out of the cellar at 59 degrees, this comes right out of the bottle giving an intense floral, rosy nose with soft tar notes. The palate is chewy, still great tartness, rich fruit, clean taste overall with leathery notes. The tannins have only an echo of their past moderate notes, but give a bit of bite at the end. And the mellow overnes mingled with the background acidity just lingers for a long time.

Rockss and Fruit

    (Ferrando Caremma "Etichetta Bianca") Great nose of moss, mint, cedar, pine, ripe cherries, nuts, mustard seed, and tar. Full and lush on the palate with tremendous balance and a blast of fruit that keeps pushing through the very long finish. The finish would not end. I kept expecting it to and it wouldn't. Wow!
