Dark smoky nose. Flavors of black currant , leather , and Asian spice. Some fruit at times yielding black jam ,but mostly earthy and mineral tones on mid and late palate. Definitely past its prime ,but could hold this structure and profile for several more years if so inclined to ever serve a 15 year old wine .
Easter with McG Family; 4/3/2015-4/5/2015 (Gerroa): Black with no rim. Pure dark fruits, a little tar spice and soft vanilla. Lush medium weight palate, nicely textured, very well balanced. Dark ripe fruits, plums and blackcurrants, licorice. Finishes very long and smooth, vanilla comes through in the end in a well integrated way. Restrained power, it has many years ahead.
This has evolved to be truly a mini Grange as it has matured. If you have some, I think it is in its prime. The color is more brick, and the heat has mellowed. Ultimately, this is a tremendous value if you can find some that was properly cellared!
Dark raspberry color, opaque. Excellent balance and harmony with still generous youthful fruit and hint of pencil shavings. This will hold for years and maybe develop more but drinking great now. I had to use an ah-so cork pull after the cork broke up with a regular corkscrew. Excellent depth and class. I can't imagine grange being worth 10 times the cost of this baby grange.
