hadn't tried this in a couple years. the oak was a problem before, but it seemed to be far more integrated now. the rusticity of the plot was showing itself with some nice meaty, earthy notes really coming through. once the guigal oak treatments wears off, the beauty of the terroir (Vallouit Les Greffieres vines, i believe) really shines.
Round, smooth and lush, this debut vintage for Guigal delivers ripe, spicy berries, a touch of espresso bean, earth, spices and intensity of flavor with a bite of freshness in the polished finish. Still young, this stylish Hermitage wine should be even better with another 3-5 years in the bottle.
