  • Another surprise! When I last opened a bottle of this back in 2018 it was thin and shrill and a bit tough to drink. A subsequent reviewer last year confirmed my impression. Oh well, win some lose some and besides, a new generation took over the winery in 2013 so I figured that this was just the last dying gasp of the past. HA. Wrong.

Apparently it just needed more time? Or, being a "Vin Biologique" the quality control challenges with a little/no sulfites approach to bottling had not been fully mastered yet? In any event, this particular bottle was great! It was medium/light weight with a heavy sediment coating one side of the bottle where it had been resting in my cellar for many years. The nose was fragrant cherry which followed through on the palate. It reminded me of a nice Chianti (in fact I spent time doing research to looked up what grapes where in this bottling as I could have sworn it was Sangiovese but its not).

I haven't tried any of the "new" generation's wine yet but a hats off farewell salute to the old generation for what has turned out to be a very fine finale!

  • Barnyard on the nose, with some subtle bright red fruit. Effervescence on the palate with a harsh, brief finish. Some cherry flavors trying to come through, but undrinkable.

  • A little too shrill for my palate with lots and lots of acids and not enough fruit. Also a hint of varnish on the nose. Still drinkable but not really a success.

  • Once again this pint size bottle delivered fun. Immediately upon popping the cork that classic cedar box of cigar hit me. Lively fruit, fine structure gives the wine life. Unfortunately, again, acetone came to dominate the wine. To my surprise, the first tens mins after the pop were fine but the VA hit hard soon after.
