Dark purple-red color. Aromas of plum, blueberry, blackberry, some meat, and smoke. Palate is initially black-fruited in character with blackberry and plum dominating. Some pepper, vanilla, smoke, and blueberry notes emerge with time in the glass. More open on the second day. Plenty of gas left in the tank for this one to develop aged nuance. Drink or hold.
Although community notes say that this wine should have been drunk by 2010, I disagree. I popped a bottle open last night, and I wished I'd had a really good burger to go with it. Not spectacular, but also not over the hill, with good color and fruit.
Wonderful nose full of green herbs, gravel, old book cases, and distant hints of mint and hot pepper spice. The palate cascades with chocolate and more stone, all supported over lovely tannin. Dry and acidic stones come on the finish with an espresso and branch-y syrup. Nice, nice, nice. PJG: 90/91
