  • This was one of my dream whiskies to taste, having adored the 18 year old. This did not disappoint in that it was a richer, deeper expression, with a caramel addition that certainly the 18 doesn’t have. Yet, the 18 has an etherial aspect that the 25 doesn’t. The 18 has a more pronounced briney character that I just love. On its own terms, this 25 is a beautiful stunner, but for the money the 18 is the one to get.

  • 6cl sample. With Larissa and Darryl. Some stone fruit, mint (almost ethereal), raisins, chocolate, rum, toffee, leather, some vanilla and some smoke on the complex if slightly reserved nose. Some stone fruit, sherry, caramel, leather, smoke and salty notes on the palate, with very warming, even slightly burning alcohol and superb length. This full- to medium-bodied Talisker 25 seemed sweeter that the Talsiker Neist Point, was even more complex, with even better concentration, but also more alcoholic and less drinkable. Even if I leave the price out of the equation, despite the Talisker 25’s better concentration and complexity I preferred the Talisker Neist Point today, for its drinkability. Body 7.5/10, Smoke 6/10, Sweetness 5/10.
