Popped and poured. This is a solid red wine. On the nose, I get wet earth, tomato bush, an herbal/mint note, some wood influenced chocolate, and just a touch of heat. In the mouth, this is mid-weight with some dark fruit and coffee aspects. The finish is strangely candied, incongruent with the rest of the wine, and, at least for me, off putting. Overall, this seems akin to a dish made with nice ingredients that ended up discombobulated. Today was not a good day for this wine (I probably would give a 90 or 91 if the finish hadn’t been so off; cf. the 2011 Tempest). 87 points.

The stars aligned for this wine. I actually Coravin’d the wine, and was immediately surprised how smooth and delicious the wine was. Opened the bottle the next evening and was rewarded with chocolate and dark fruit components and balanced tannins that made this a compelling wine. My last bottle unfortunately. Again, one of those surprises fron an “off” vintage.

Nice nose of blackberry, raspberry and a touch of earthiness. Fruit forward blackberry flavors with some leather, and a hint of vanilla. Tannins are still high, low to medium low acidity. Definitely a new world cab franc, but not over the top, very nice.

Dark blackberry fruit, plum like color with terrific secondary notes of tobacco, forest floor, mushroom and cassis. After an hour decant this blend really Becomes expressive, layered and delicious. One of the better U.S. produced Bordeaux blends I have tasted from 2011.
