Epic tasting across 5 decades 1974 Dirty delicate, floral subtle Stemy, a little green but layered and delicious, 94pts 1982 hawthorn a little watered down preferred the 74, 92pts 1992 Closed initially and with time in the glass started to open up but just too green and unbalanced to be appreciated at this juncture, 92pts 1996 a little Green, good structure. Really not ready but has more potential and could be good in a few years, 93pts 2001 a little oxidized, not scored 2004 best nose with ephemeral flora aromatics, delicate and layered, simply gorgeous 95pts 2006 slightly more muted nose than the 2004, but I preferred the palate more than the 04 with just a little bit more complexity. 95pts 2014 this was my WOTN shows how far modern winemaking has come and is the value wine of the night. Layered structured and simply magnificent. 96pts

6 Decades of La Tache: This bottle of the 82 La Tâche surprises, belying the reputation of the vintage and offering something really profound. This marries the elegant complexity of the 79 La Tâche with the fruit vigor of younger vintages to display a superb wine at the peak of its powers. Raspberry, cardamom, squab, oolong, and mineral all whipped up into a wonderful maelstrom of Vosne-Romanée. Attention-grabbing (on the heels of two attention-grabbing wines, no less). Opinion was justifiably divided between this and the 79, which was surely finer-boned, but I couldn’t help but love this. 98-99

Rose colored. A relative lightweight for La Tache. Fully mature but not tired as it has nice dried fruit and earth without being autumnal. In a nice spot for easy-going drinking.

The nose was deep with dried flowers, perfume, tea, sous bois, and earth with a slightly green tinge. Surprisingly fresh and vibrant for the vintage. Loved the nutmeg and coffee bean note on the palate which compliment the sensation on the nose. Nice surprise for the vintage. The wine gained depth in the glass despite a slightly short length. The terroir speaks.

Light ruby, 5cm below cork, from VC's cold but damp cellar. Still has 28 bottles of this!! Wonderful nose, immediately complex red fruit, touch of celery and beef broth. Mid-weight only and starting to lose its structure on the palate. Needs drinking up. A good experience and accessible La Tache and a great way to start 2017!!
