  • Decanted for 45 minutes to open fully. An appealing dark purple color. Primary aroma is of dark red fruits, but there are whiffs of coffee and chocolate around the edges. All of these follow on to the medium to plus bodied palate, along with spice and earth, but with the dark red fruits front and center. The acidity is balancing and the finish is relatively long.
As enjoyable as our previous bottle in Nov '19. I don't envision any further development, but would imagine that this wine can hold for several more years.

  • Consumed over two days. Excellent first day and better the second. Great fruit, great development of tertiary qualities in the glass and over the course of two days. Clearly another 5-10 years before there is any backslide in quality... peak likely about 4-5 years in the future! My wife simply loved this wine!

  • Slo-oxed for a bit over 60 minutes. Enticing aromas of red fruits and violets. The medium bodied palate shows bright red fruits, some dark red fruits, touches of spice, pepper and earth. Nicely balancing acidity and a satisfying finish. An enjoyable wine that should hold for a couple of years.

  • Decanted 2.5 hours first. Enticing new world aromas of vanilla, cassis, stewed black cherries and what I was struggling to identify and finally settled on as steaming hot fresh edamame. Drank over another 2.5 hours and it held up fine and improved. The flavors matched the aromas with a spicy finish. The 15.2 ABV wasn't noticeable. While it had some of that classic, big, macerated, PR style, it was sufficiently different and I enjoyed for being related, but not the same, as it wasn't as overdone. While the PR terroir clearly influences the PR style, TH does a great job of controlling it so that it doesn't become excessive and too showy. Don't be shy about giving this a long decant or even a 24 hour slow ox, it'll be fine. Also, the CT end date of 2021 won't be problem either and I would really love to be able to taste this with 10-12 years of age. That desire has surprised me because I have some bottles from another PR house and I'm starting to believe the other house's style is definitely not made for the long haul. AT $72, it's an unattractive QPR. (Just saw I wrote a minor TN 2+ years ago and this wine has improved over that time frame as the sweetness and voluptuousness have matured nicely.)
