  • It's always great to try something from a "new" wine region in Croatia, especially when it's as tiny as Krašić, which encompasses the eponymous municipality of barely over 70 square kilometers, nestled somewhere between Plešivica in Žumberak. Kostel Pribićki, where OPG Šimatović hails from, is likely a place I would've never heard of if not for the wine.

I was, most generously, allowed to sample some of their wines, starting with one of my favorite varieties, traminac/traminer. 12.4%, hardly rocket fuel. Very, very pale yellow/golden body. The aroma started off as promising, typical notes of elder, with pear here and there. Aromatic, slightly assertive taste, balancing between sweetness and tanginess, dust and pear (I guess), superbly fresh, ending slightly on the bitterish side. Quite lovely for a quality-level wine. I'll likely return for a bottle for a better appraisal too.
