Annual Pilgrimage to Piedmont - 2021 Edition; 10/8/2021-10/10/2021 (Piemonte, Italy): Decanted and served. Interesting to cross paths with this wine at the start of its drinking window. Bright and energetic, more red fruit with soft liquorice, light tar and a very open very inviting nose. Lots of presence here and depth and really we cannot wait to try this a bit older when the more earthy tones kick in. 93 for now but with lots of potential.

Classic, layered bouquet of roses, strawberry, cherry, dusty spice, minerals and savory herbs. It displayed pure, silky textures with red fruits, fine tannin and mineral crunch. Inner floral tones and dried fruits linger long on the fresh yet structured finish, yet the best is still a decade or two down the road.

A look into some 2011 Barolos (My place, Chicago IL): Nose: The nose was wide open and complex with violets, red cherries, licorice, perfumes, clay notes, herbal spices, rose petals, and a tidal pool aroma that provided some extra lift. The nose was dense, but it also was hitting a lovely red fruited upper register.
Taste: Full bodied with high acidity and chewy tannins. The structure was clearly youthful, but it wasn't coarse. there was a liveliness to the structure and feel too along with clay notes, violets, red cherries, cranberries, herbal spices, and a good bit of licorice.
Overall: This is an extremely young Barolo, but it is one with oodles of potential. It was drinking deceptively at this time, but it does feel like it can hit another gear or two with at least another 10-15 years of aging.

45 min decant and it was singing. Classic barolo nose. Light fruits and bright tart cherry. Long finish, real nice

Tre Bicchieri (San Francisco): ripe and a bit simple with some sweet oak influence and soft structure for Barolo (medium plus tannins) - 8.5
