  • Ripe blackcurrant and sweet blackberry lead the way on the nose followed by eucalyptus, lead pencil and aniseed. The whole profile is very black.
Palate matches the nose, also with some cooling dry bracken herbaceousness.
Still very young and fresh, no tertiary notes at all yet. 14 years old and still barely lost its purple. A fair bit of staining in the tears so probably quite extracted, contributing to that concentration that's slowing the aging.
Really impressive but as it's my only bottle I wish I'd waited another 5-10 years!

  • At age 13, in it’s prime!
Oodles of dark fruit, great texture, hints of the Coonawarra chalky dryness but almost fully integrated. Glad we still have more, suspect another 5 to 10 years of life left yet.

  • popped and poured , regarding the previous comments on decanted I decanted this bottle then poured in back in the bottle

Mature vine (planted 1985) Coonawarra cabernet sauvignon with a smidgen of petit verdot. Matured in all-new, all-French oak for two years and then stored, in bottle, for three years in temperature-controlled conditions prior to release. It’s not an inexpensive process.

Colour deep red with purple hues, dense colour with pink edges no bricking 15/15
Nose super rich and pure fruit ,concentrated blackcurrant black olive cranberry , florals of violet , coonawarra mint, vanilla spice ,very primary for a wine which is now 12yo hint of leather and cigar box classic coonawarra 29/30
Palate super intensity full bodied , fruit blackcurrant , raspberry , smooth tannins , oak is now integrated at this stage , long silky finish with plenty of acidity and savoury drying tannins 42/44
Overall A powerful, superbly structured wine with great length, starting to transition into secondary characters , 12yo , critics give this wine another 20-30 years . this bottle is drinking superbly now 10/11

  • Probably didn’t give this enough air before drinking Saturday night. Note reads: Really dark colour. Blackberry, dark chocolate and a hint of mint and tobacco on the nose. Juicy, savoury tannin dusted fruit. Real depth to the palate and excellent balance between fruit, tannin and acidity. After 6 hours open still quite tight. Flavours are impeccable for classy Coonawarra Cabernet. Needs more time. Note to self not to open the other and last one for 10 years!

The rest on Sunday verified this. Had evolved into something exceptional.

  • 3.5 stars but very nearly 4 stars. This Aussie Bordeaux blend is all Cab Sauv, but has obviously aged well with the oak and leather notes, some smokiness too which lends to its character and of course plenty of blackberries and black fruits on the palate.

I did not get the typical mint notes from its Cab Sauv roots, and I am glad @[1|9482449|Mika Tyson Teau] shared this, and @[1|24439245|Joe Yee Wong] too are trying so hard to convince me that there's value and goodness in Aussie wines ?? Hahhaa...
