Quite sweet and truffley this avoided some of the heavy oxidative notes seen in some older Champagnes. Few at the table had had such an old sparkler. To them it was a revalation. For me, this was not in the same league as the 1911 and 1914 drunk side by side the year before, but still, it was an honour to drink.
