  • Inky in the glass. Dark and tannic with a touch of ham on the nose. Like an old Bordeaux. Balanced Acidity.

  • Russk. RHM brought a vertical of these from the 1990s. All good. But imo this was the best. Reminding me of 2000 Medoc. Maybe I should be trying more wines from Carmel.

  • Wow, what a nice wine, at an even better price point. Upon opening, I get lots of red fruits, black cherry, almost floral aroma, dried herbs, and tobacco in the nose. The wine seems soft and welcoming. Appearance is faded garnet, body looks to be medium-medium full. In the mouth, the wine is a bit salty/saline. Fruit flavors are a bit muted, the wine needs to open up some, and with some time, the aroma and flavors gain intensity. Flavors match the nose, acid and tannin are fully resolved, day two shows less fruit, more tertiary flavors and aromas of dried herbs, eucalyptus, tobacco, and dried fruit. What a steal for $25.00.

  • Bottle and cork in excellent condition. Nice garnet color. Nose of dark fruit, cassis, and a bit herbal. Palate shows a bit of oxidation (not intrusive) and a sharp acidic note. Not bad, but not great. Acid a bit too high, without enough nose and palate to make it very interesting. A more European style but the lean nature isn't balanced with complexity and sophistication. But not bad.

  • Cork was suprisingly solid, saturation was condensed to the first 1/4" of the cork.

Full bodied red wine- prevalent cherry candy notes (think Jolly Rancher cherry without that cloyingly sweet sugar), cranberry, pomegranate pith, old wood, and earth notes as well. The nose is similar to the taste. The wine has a bright acidity- more acid than I would have thought of in a 1993 bottle of California Cabernet. I thought that this was very interesting and pleasing as it went well with the rack of lamb that we were eating that night. The wine was very drinkable, I also feel that there was some time left in this wine- not bad for a 21 yr old bottle, right?
