  • Tasted at the winery. Butter, oak and orchard fruit notes on the nose. Medium bodied, showing mainly steely orchard fruit at first and then softening with peach and yellow apple. The finish was very integrated with the body of the wine, but without as much acidity as I was expecting from a carricante. Overall, I was bit surprised by how this wine has seemed to age. It was much heavier in weight, with fewer mineral notes and acidity than I was expecting. Based on the prior notes, if you really enjoy your carricante with citrus zip and acidity, this may be a bit past its peak.

  • Aeolian Sailing Trip & a bit of Etna; 8/22/2014-8/31/2014 (Eolian Islands): Carricante complimented with a bit of Riesling . Named for the legendary eruption of Etna in 1614 which lasted for 10yrs.
A mineral, well structured wine full of the volcanic feel, stony feel, complemented with a green apple profile.floral at times. Good acidity adds a structure and backbone. Nice well made and full of local character. Quite enjoyable and fresh. So much better from all the Chardonnays planeta makes.. 90-91

  • sehr komplexer, vielschichtiger, fruchtiger Wein. Kraftvoll und zitronig, nach unreifem Pfirsich schmeckend, mit mineralischer Saeure. Langer Nachgeschmack.

  • Beautiful wine which although fresh is also quite complex, combining floral notes with peach fruit and minerality. Has considerable weight in the mouth acidity which is balanced by fruit and nice finish. I suspect this one can age nicely.

  • Very complex nose with flinty minerality, citrus fruit, citrus zest, florality (chamomile). Medium-bodied with high fruit concentration and vibrancy, zesty acidity and a long aftertaste. Exceptional wine from Etna. Great aging potential. If I had to compare it to a Greek wine in terms of style, this is like a cross between a Santorini assyrtiko and a robola of Kefalonia, combining the body, minerality and complexity of the former with the lovely florality and elegance of the latter. By chance, these happen to be my favorite Greek whites.
