Four years since my last tasting of this Cayron and it was not decanted. This is a match for much more costly CdPs. I am continuously surprised by how well Cayron does, year after year, especially with time in the cellar. Glad to have 6 more cellared.
Rosalie"s wine at the tasting. Delightful, complex, drinking wonderfully. Blew away my Janasse (tasting was Chateauneuf du Pape and Gigondas) and easily ran with Vieux Telegraphe (2008 and 1998) and a young Pagau Cuvée Riservee. I try to buy this every year, it seems to ovrperperform consistently, and ages better than the CT drinking windows. This had plenty of time left.
Not overly deep in colour, with red hues moving to the fore and a little orange at the rim. The nose would divide opinion, but for me the barnyardy/medicinal aromas bring very attractive complexity. The redcurranty fruit is in good background support, along with a little aniseed.
Similar barnyard/medicinal influence on the palate, which has glycerine like softness betraying the alcohol. That softness fills out a what would otherwise have been unusually light bodied.
