Ganevat Mon Pere Vertical (Chambers): Very oxidative and rich nose, but not quite as intense as 08. Seaspray, chestnuts, orange rind, amchoor, galangal, shiso flowers. Very concentrated on the palate. Long, fine finish. Probably the best bottle of 03 Mon Pere I've had.
ABV: 13.5% Closure: natural cork Stem: Korin white stem Decant: N/A; poped and poured and tasted over the course of ~5h Extra info: from vines of Savagnin Vert planted in 1930, on the blue marl of the Chalasses site. Aged for 130 months a la ouille in old demi-muid and barrels after a press à l'ancienne and no racking of the must. A small amount of sulphur is added only at bottling Vintage info from JF Ganevat: The first very sunny and hot year, but surprisingly fresh thanks to the farming, the age of the vines and some rain in the winter (yet no rain in the summer). The first vintage of a new era and new dynamics: the savagnin fermented over-night, something Jean-Francois had never seen before. (Today is a different story, he has some 2015s still fermenting). They did not cool down the grapes that year, something they now do regularly.

Such an intriguing wine. The nose is spectacular, tasting it you sense the age (20 y.o. at time of tasting) the middle is a bit flat but it ends with strong acidity and some honey notes.
Having drunk a lot of Savagnin lately, usually the acidity comes straight at the start and not at the end. I did not notice any spruce on this one either. Truly an alien.

Incredibly rich and deep nose with flavors of meyer lemon, minerals, apples, orange rind, smoke, honey, and floral notes. Impeccably balanced on the palate. It’s a huge wine, so much weight and richness, yet offset by nice acidity and bright fruit and citrus flavors. Super long finish. What a fantastic experience, this is a very serious, yet incredibly enjoyable wine.

A wonderful wine, but a bit below the 2007. Not as salivating. I felt like it was slightly past is peak and more oxidative than the 2007,still a very powerful wine at this point. Glad I had the chance to drink this again. I feel like no white wine in this world can feel that young after 19 years (except a yellow wine!)

An absolute treat of a wine for me to try. Deserving of its place in the pantheon of the world's greatest whites. Despite its age, this bottle showed wonderfully youthful. 100% Savagnin with 10 years on the lees, I would have expected a more funky and oxidative expression. Instead, you have some petrol, some pit fruit notes in the high register, a beautiful oily viscosity on the palate. Truly a symphony.
