I must admit that rhones aren't my long suit. I prefer Rhone varietals from the US more. I pulled this bottle to try it and basically just get it out of the cellar. At first, the nose was what I expected. Gamey, dusty, the fruit buried under a wet animal type of note that I can't get behind. Then something unexpected happened. I tried a piece of very funky clothbound cheddar I had out and the wine was transformed. Now there was a fruitty sweetness on the attack with an underlying lavender note. What was gamey was now more meaty, mushroom and dried cherries and raspberries. I scored the wine low because I don't love the style. That's my palate. But with the right food I will admit there is something magical here which is the whole point. This bottle served as my reminder for the day why I love wine.

Tasty stuff, with ripe blackberries, fine but grippy tannins. Showing some restraint and easy-drinking characteristics, but not a simple wine. Love the Provencal herbs and pepper notes.

Good blackberry flavor. Nice level of spice but with a smooth finish.
