Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 94 pts. and median of 94 pts. in 1 note)

Tasted by Paul S on 11/23/2009 & rated 94 points: Egon Müller luncheon with Egon Müller IV (Bistro du Vin, Shaw House): Wow. This was excellent. The pale, barely yellowish gold gave little hint of the depth and complexity of the wine. A little touch of sulphur, but that blew off quickly to show lovely, deep honeyed notes, hints of mushroom, apricots, some nuttiness and little drops of petrol. Equally wow on the palate. Great intensity was wed to very well integrated acidity, with the wine having delicious flavours of dried figs, fresh apricots, candied apples, candied ginger and honeyed notes that reminded me of treacle, molasses and fresh maple syrup. Not quite a BA, but certainly a top, top Auslese in its rich complexity. Finish was long and seamless wth spiced pears and quince paste tones to it. So very delicious, and still so young, this was barely coming out of its awkward adolesence. It would be a real treat to taste it in 10 years' time when I suspect it will begin to approach its peak. Absolutely wonderful. What a beautiful pairing with the apple tart and vanilla ice-cream as well - just heavenly. 94-95. (172 views)

Wines of Germany | The Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates (VDP) | How to read a German wine label
Starting in 2007 the German wine authorities have changed labeling laws to rename all of the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer wines to just "Mosel." This puts this and other database driven sites in a difficult, as millions of old wine label reflect the former labeling. As described here, CellarTracker has elected to remain with the old labeling for a number of years to avoid confusion. At some point we will switch over to just "Mosel" but not for a few years at least. Mosel WeinKulturland (Mosel-Saar-Ruwer Wein e.V.)
