  • Color is still incredibly deep, dark purple, showing just the slightest signs of age around the edge. Big nose, highlighted by black plums. Velvety tannins on the attack, followed by big, bold, black fruit. A hint of earth comes through as it evolves in the mouth, and the finish lingers for a good deal of time. Drinking at its peak right now, and will not benefit by anymore time I. The bottle. Having tonight with grilled porterhouse steaks.

  • Had together with the 1998 and 1997. Started off closed, the 1998 outshone it. After about an hour this opened up and really started to shine. Good depth, nice fruit. Not a dry wine, and low tannins. Very drinkable...best overall compared to the 97 and 98.

  • Not decanted. Deep ruby color. Moderate intensity but very complex aromatics-- cassis, black currant, cedar, tobacco, earth. Palate: Blueberry and red fruits, cedar, with black currants in abundance. Medium bodied, juicy and tangy, good balance, just a touch of oak and soft tannins lead to a blueberry and earth finish of moderate length. Very pleasant, balanced, not big or intense but quite enjoyable. Ready to drink, but may hang on a few more years.
