Tasted blind, I would be at a loss to identify this wine. Not obviously French or Californian. Too complex for most new world location.
Pale gold, with fragrant leesiness and gentle lemon curd, suggesting a ripe white Burgundy. Refreshing blend of 50% Roussanne, 35% Marsanne, 10% Viognier, 5% Grenache Blanc. Marsanne, when it is good, it lends an effortless creaminess without heavy unctuousness. The texture is simply delightful, the taste light but full. Wish I had more. Could easily go another year, maybe 3.
White Rhones from California seem consistently more inviting than their French counterparts. 4+13+18+7

My wife and I had part of the bottle on a Friday and the rest on the following Sunday. Refreshing both days and great with the mushroom pizza on day 1 (rating, 89 pts) and the pasta con panna e fiunghi day 3 (92 pts). That it was better on day three is not surprising given its youth and the large amount of Roussanne (50%) and Marsanne (35%) in the blend. The extra exposure to air made the wine creamier and more fragrant, without showing any deleterious effects of oxygen.
In sum this wine has good life ahead of it. William Allen's Two Shepherds wines are a big hit with us. The alcohol tastes in balance and the fruit is ripe but not tropical or blowsy. They refresh and seduce.

Lemon, apricot, peach, honey, perfume, almond. Almost full bodied. High acidity. Soft round mid-palate, but finishes with zippy acidity with honeyed lemon note. Very nice.

There is thirst quenching cleanliness that makes you want to gulp it down. At the same time the palate has an unctuousness and artesian minerality that makes you want to savor it slowly. It blows more perfume and tastes much richer at 50 F with food, but is also darn refreshing at 40 F by itself.
So we drank some by itself before dinner rather chilled and saved the rest of the bottle for dinner, when it warmed up and paired perfectly with the thyme/garlic/lemon roasted chicken. Two wines in one!! Versatile and delicious, closer in weight and texture to a leesy Muscadet sur lie than a white Rhone.

Two Shepherds Tasting (Weygandt Wines - Washington, D.C.): Bursts with peaches, flowers, minerals, some chalky saline elements. Palate is clean and salty with apricot, orange peel and white tea. Very pleasant and fresh and inviting, as always. William’s largest production white, which means a whopping 105 cases.
