  • Opened 5 hours earlier. Medium red with brown tinted rim. Strong fennel stemminess more than red fruit scents. Medium bodied and slightly burly (no pun intended) for Nebbiolo. Pungent green herbs, anise, and bit of tar. Deep, tart black cherry comes out over time along with a citrus twist. Harsh back end that still needs better integration of the raspy tannins and coarse earthiness. There is definitely some potential upside and softening here, but discordant and not especially pleasing at this moment in time. Elegance is definitely not its long suit.

  • Nice, although slightly ripe nose of red berries, red fruit, sweet cherries, and spices. Good acidity and medium+ tannins, adding good structure without being too dusty. More red berries and cherry flavors on the palate. Good finish. Well made, good QPR Barolo, although not super complex.

  • Nose: Cherries. Rose. Woodspice. Alcohol. Orange peel. Spread around amongst these elements without a single dominant feature.

Palate. Alcohol. Wood. Cherries. A pop of acidity. Not angular but not seamless.

Finish. Ripe bittersweet tannin, that still offer a bit of grip but in a gentle manner. Lengthy finish with cherry fruit still there at the end.

  • Took to poker night for a friend who loves high abv wines from Australia and the Southern Rhone- he LOVED it! Didn't take formal notes but it was as ripe and perfumy as I was expecting at 15%. Structure is more alcohol and tannin than acid, and the finish is absolutely killed by the alcohol. I was pleasantly surprised that it was neither hot or medicinal though I prefer the the 2012, which has much more balance IMO. Overall Evaluation: B (86).
