restrained mature CS nose - medium body with fully resolved tannins - very smooth and pleasant drinking - obviously faded, but still complemented grilled lamb chops nicely - no hint of oxidation - a pleasant surprise!

This wine was served to me by a an old college buddy who said, "This is my last bottle. Let's try it!" A great surprise: Still in good shape but not going to get any better. Good color with little browning. No pruniness as is sometimes found with Napa Valley Cabs this old. Possesses the restraint of Bordeaux with the fruit of Napa Cabs. If you have any, drink now and enjoy!

I pulled this bottle from the back of the cellar, and was first delighted to find the cork intact, and more important, the wine still very acceptable, even though past its prime. The assembled company were also impressed by the persisting fruit without excessive tannin. Well done, Penfolds!

DIY Holiday BYO Dinner (Amali in NYC): So fun to drink these old aussies which seem to mature into wines that could easily be mistaken for more old world. Decanted for most of the night and I tried it prob 3-4 hours later. Fruit had faded and so this was mostly earth and leather. Fun wine.

Tannic, lacks fruit. Enjoyable with steak.
