Domaine Serene Tasting Dinner (Sunfish Cellars, St. Paul, MN): Medium dark red color. 2oz pour over 20 minutes; side by side with the '12. Just had this a few days ago and it was equally impressive. A wine that needs a little air to really blossom at this stage; this was becoming ever more impressive. There is just such pretty fruit and great acid with an excellent perfumy nose. The elegance and nuance comes through nicely along with the crisp acidity as a contrast to the youthful, fuller and riper fruited '12. Both are excellent, and maybe one day the '12 will be better, but for now I prefer the '11.
Mid-weight savory aromas of dark berries and flint that have a very subtle chocolate note. The youthful palate is fairly lean and focused, with clean blackcurrant and redcurrant flavors laced with hints of sage and meat. More delicate and slightly riper fruit notes of strawberry and cherry come through on the finish with some stoniness.
