Dīner chez nous (Chez nous, Bruxelles, Belgium): Voilà, le vin est à maturité. Sans être d'une grande complexité, beau vin droit, 'bordelais', avec des tannins enfin fondus. Le dernier demi-verre, goûté 4 jours plus tard, est excellent.
Aromas of beef blood, iron filings and cedar. In the mouth it’s fresh and energetic, working along a relatively narrow channel, and crammed full of savoury goodness. Lively acidity gives focus and vitality.
1989 revisited offline (Hambleton Hall, Rutland): This has intense black fruit on the nose with some garrique in the background. There's also a definite hint of emulsion paint. Big and mouthfilling; and also a touch wild. Massive tannins. It's much improved with food, but is still rather outclassed by the rest of the flight.
