  • Definitely over the hill. It consolidated and showed more fig and dried black cherry with some anise after about 20 minutes. Definitely is not a table frontrunner, and would come in somewhere towards the back in a crowd of 10. It has a little bit of tertiary notes and some braised prune on the finish. No upside potential here. If you have these, drink them now!

  • A little funky for the first 20-30 minutes. Had sort of a boiled tart plum and prune note and was a little funky metallic. But, this settled really nicely after just leaving it alone. I guess it needed a bit of time to stretch the legs after a 25 year hibernation. Poured a nice dark ruby red but there was a bit of browning. The notes on the entry were overripe black cherry, some mushroom, fig, tart, roasted plums. Definitely developed more shape and more of a backbone. Finished with a vegetal quality and some smoked meaty character but for the most part retains the aged black cherry backbone. Really not much tannin here, and tamed acidity. Starting to lose some structure though, and I think that this wine is definitely over the hill. Going, but not gone. Probably would have been better with some dehydrated fruits and charcuterie of some kind, but this was pretty much served a la carte.

  • This was "the" favorite of the day...among a number of other reds (some include 2000 D'Aiguilhe , 2005 Becot Bordeaux's and a 99 Shafer)

  • A great example of a California cabernet with some age on it. Not a fruit forward example, but more mineraly and herbacious. The fruit is a muted dark cherry with hints of black berry. The tannins are very silky and not obtrusive at all. Let it breathe for a bit before drinking - it definitely had some funkiness on the nose when first opened.

  • TCF February 2006 Off-Line (Napa - Powell's): Fruit was fading in the glass on this one. Finish just fell off.
