Really enjoyed this. Served with grilled spice rub strip steak, citrus/arugula salad, quinoa. Excellent complement to the food. WGMCCALLUM notes are pretty accurate to my taste. I'd suggest some differences however--fruit was not so sweet though I get the gist, and overall wine had very good balance. Lovely nose and palate with a bit of smokiness to go with herbs & cocoa, black cherry & plum/aged fruit, and floral notes. Tannin was quite integrated with this bottle. Drinking about perfectly now, and stayed fine from start to finish.

Cloudy garnet. Dominant yeasty notes on the nose, with undercurrents of chocolate, black plums, and violets. Concentrated sweet fruit on the palate, full-bodied and bordering on syrupy, with a touch of vanilla and light acids. Impressive sweet tannic fruit presence on the back with a long finish. Fun to taste this different grape, but I'm not sure the wine comes together in the end. 50 + 16 + 16 + 7 = 89.

Black cherry, undergrowth, violets on the nose. Intense berry and plum fruit on the palate with a slight acid frame, aromatic back notes, and a long structured tannic finish. Full, rich, and easy going. 50 + 15 + 16 + 8 = 89.

I rarely get to enjoy a good Humagne, but tonight was the night. Comes across as a lighter styled northern Rhone to me. Black berries with hints of black pepper and dried herb aromas. Similar flavor profile, perhaps slightly more fruit-driven. Very good length. A wonderful Garagiste find.
