  • Lovely mature claret still holding a charming amount of fruit and a gentle but balanced finish. Really enjoyed this bottle.

  • Brought by Otis to dinner. Excellent bordeaux vintage. This is a 4th growth wine. The only other Saint-Pierre that I've had is the 2000 twice and I liked this 1990 better. Not decanted. Silky tannins. A little mustiness on the nose. Notes of cedar and underbrush. 88 points.

  • Dinner @ R&Y: Blind. This has a very clean and elegant nose, clearly cabernet dominated, I'd guess left bank but no idea where. After a lot of wild guessing Ray revealed this as a St Julien - slightly surprised as I didn't get any of the cedarwood aromas I usually associate with St J. This is ready but will hold for years - very elegant and correct, proper wine. Nicely mineral and refreshing with impeccable poise, and a bright finish. Lovely ****1/2

  • Never serve Bordeaux after Chateauneufs… they just don’t show well and it’s hard to go from the sweet fruit and richness of CdPs to the more structured, herbaceous Cabernet dominated wines. It probably took 10 minutes and a full glass of the 1990 Château Saint-Pierre for me to actually start to warm up to it. The seemingly herbaceous, earthy wine morphed into a complex, rich wine with cedar, lead pencil, cassis and assorted dark fruit notes and flavors and I’m sure this was my palate changing and not the wine. The palate was rich, balanced and had plenty of life left.

  • Best bottle I've had of this yet, unfortunately my last one also. Vibrant ruby red color with some orange at the rim. Pleasant aromas of fruitcake, cedar, and allspice. Tastes of ripe cabernet with hints of tobacco and spices. Long, rich and sweet, tannins are melted away, nice finish. Almost like a Cali cab. Fantastic wine but maybe a bit too sweet and it does lack complexity.

(Chateau Saint-Pierre St Julien) Good fruity nose. Similarly, sweet fruit on the palate. A lovely structure, with less aggressive tannins, correct acidity and a medium body. Drinking very nicely now, but will hold its own for years yet.
