  Starting to show some developing nose and opening up on the palate. Still a bit tight after a two hour double decant, but fruit starting to come through. Hope that the fruit wins out over the structure in the coming years as I have several more.

  This seemed like an awkward adolescent, more uncommunicative than unattractive, and leaving some questions about whether the inexpressiveness is more a phase or an enduring characteristic. There are some familiar notes of leather and cherry, but not much aroma and not much flavor. The problem is not youth per se -- the tannins and the acidity are both moderate -- but just a lack of oomph.

Poised middle weight but powerful, penetrating acids and strong tannins. Oh yes, some dusty, earthy black cherry too, but this takes a distant back seat to all of the structure at this point. This should be outstanding, but don't even think about it for another decade.

  Followed this and the 2010 Rocche over theee days. This was much more austere with bracing tannins and potent acidity. Not as much fun to drink today as the Rocche. On day 3 there was a nice perfume coming from behind the structure. High hopes but a bit tough today.
