Medium ruby. Dark Cherry, Raspberry and Soy. Nice and juicy, well balanced with a medium finish. Fruit forward but spice, fig and mushroom on the back end. Drank over two days and stayed solid

I pulled this out of the cellar after the Tablas Creek blog indicated it was at full maturity. Beautiful color, great balance and harmony, cherry compote, forest floor Pinot Noir, and unmuted umami nuances tell a story heretofore untold. What a treat, recreates the uncommon magic of the southern Rhone.
Good and great wines in their youth have plenty of music: a Chopin nocturne deep and mysterious, a Bach Brandenburg Concerto joyful and capricious, a Mozart piano concerto voluble and fluent, or a symphony of Beethoven or Mahler bold and lionhearted.
Wines evolve and, under the right circumstances, can take on a new dimension. Hidden lyrics are unveiled. Such seems this 2012 Tablas Creek Côtes de Tablas, as though Richard Rodgers finally found Oscar Hammerstein. 90+

PnP, but better with 15 minutes of air. A light to medium ruby in the glass. Some initial funk upon opening which blows off with air yielding red fruit and earth. The red fruits carry over to the medium bodied palate along with an amplified earthy component and juicy acidity. The latest Tablas Creek Vintage Chart shows this wine "drinking well-mature", but my impression of this wine is of a slightly overaged Cotes du Rhone. The wine will not improve, so drink up.

2nd bottle from our cellar. Cork had wine intrusion (3/4 up to the top). Definitely should have been drunk a few years ago - our fault! But 1st bottle was absolutely acceptable, so this one was a surprise in terms of its blandness. Drank 1/2 the bottle, tossed the rest.
