A small gathering at Bryan's (Bryan's place): The color looks a bit dark in the bottle but the Lafon bottle has a hint of brown tint. Beautiful golden color. Expressive nose displaying sumptuous sweet yellow fruit, peach, peach pie, a hint of pineapple, crème brulee, sweet spice and subtle mineral. Fully mature palate, layers upon layers of mature sweet yellow fruit, rich but showing excellent balance, bright acidity, medium mineral and a long sweet yellow fruit driven finish with crème brulee at the end. It showed beautifully but need to be drunk up. If you like your white Burgundy young, your scores will be a few points lower.

Very pleasant but no more. Well preserved, soft and subtle, not oxidized. There was a family resemblance to a younger version with the volume turned way down.

Beautiful and big nose of mild gunpowder, sulphur, and angel food cake. Supremely rich but clean and pure. Whipped honey, honeydew melon, and stoney minerals on palate. Cool slate with some salinity. Slightly sharper than expected on palate, really clean cut, not fat. Unbelievable acid leads to zinging finish. Touch of pineapple, touch of molasses. Underripe mango with a bit of gristle. Special.

Fine overall but unremarkable wine - it seems that this is the wine based on the middling tasting notes over time.

A decent drink and perfectly sound but it demonstrates that 31 years is just too long for white Burg to remain vigorous, at least for Lafon Meursault.
