Magnum best bottle (Restaurant Holz und Feuer, Kirchheim, Germany): Glass: Sophienwald Bordeaux From normal bottle. Pfalz version of a Riesling Spätlese in a warm vintage. Very well made, easy to drink, but lacks soul, tension, depth and complexity. Drink now or over the next decade. Will most likely not improve. 88-89

Medium gold colour. Pronounced and developed nose with peach, apricot, nectarine, ginger, honey, hazelnuts and petroleum. Pronounced taste of peach, apricot, ginger, honey, hazelnut and petroleum. Long and sweet finish. High acidity. Medium body. A very good Riesling Spätlese that has matured beautifully. Drink now or over the next ten years. Goes well with cheeses or fruit based desserts.

Dyp gul farge. Veldig aromatisk og moden Riesling med tydelig fruktpreg. Modne sitroner og fersken. Fyldig munnfølelse med tydelig søthet. Syren balanserer bra, men kunne hatt gjerne hatt litt mer av den.

Rich, sweet and unctuous on the palate, mouth-filling but with limited nuance and complexity. After a few days in the fridge it became more mellow and developed an extraordinary finish that lingered in the mouth, in some sense more powerful and appealing than it was before swallowing. Worth getting again.
