Wine evening (Restaurant Krietsch, Schwäbisch Gmünd): Popped and poured. Clear, deep ruby-garnet color. Intense, deep and smoky nose with lots of strawberries and fresh herbs. On the palate very fresh and young, ethereal and herbaceous, fine strawberry, some raspberry, very good structure and texture. Noticeable toasting, but not too much. Long, fruity finish. German Pinot at its very best and not yet at full peak. 93+

I drank another of this bottle a few years ago and it was much better. I don't think this bottle was flawed, just past its prime.
Had a strong funk on the nose, so I decanted for a half hour and it mostly blew off. Still had some deep fruit flavor including some baked notes like a fig galette. But it was tough to get past the original aroma.
Acidity was good, but overall balance was just off.
I don't have enough of this to compare over time and bottles, but I remember loving the other bottle years ago, so this is either bottle variation, or it just evolved into something I don't care for as much.

Drank over 2 nights. Outstanding, well balanced Pinot that still has a few years to go. One of the very best producers in Germany.

Marvelous bottle with all elements harmonious; rich in texture, silky, earthy, red fruits, length. Cellared since original release.

Not as strong a showing as the most recent bottle. Vegetal on the nose, very acidic on the palate. Drinkable, but thin and unbalanced.
