Slightly disappointed with this Idus. I am such a fan of Vall Llach in general - one of Priorat's best estates. The 2010 vintage was one of the best of the last 20 years but this Idus doesn't seem to have aged that elegantly. I think it lacks acidity and structure. This is its principal failing, in my book. At the heart this is an honest, truthful wine that does a great job of expressing old Garnatxa vines, and those mysterious stony qualities of the famous Priorat licorella. The nose is sweet and intensely perfumed, reminiscent of carob, prunes, figs, dates... But it's a bit flabby on the palate: dense, rich, powerful. Just needs structure and acidity to rein in all that overflowing richness. I think it has more life in it, but it's not one for ageing, sadly. It wears its crazy alcohol level lightly - another virtue.

Monthly Tasting Group HWS #105; Priorat (By RvD): Luxurious bouquet with beautiful oak, sweet spices like cinnamon, leather and preserved fruits. On the palate red and dark berry fruits, a firm amount of vanilla from the oak, sweet spices, herbs, chocolate, good acidity and round tannin with a pleasant bite. Already pleasurable now, but this can easily last until into the 2020’s and might gain a bit in score. 91 – 92 for this evening.
