At Fogo de Chao, a Brazilian wine, and quite frankly a mediocre wine, especially at $83, but when in faux Rio... Sour on opening but improved with air. I said "old wine", which it definitely tasted. Red currant and a hint of garrigue in the nez, with sour cherry, leather, bits of wood. Blind you'd say "Chianti", not quite in a straw basket, but not much better than. I would not recommend.

Nose of plums, currants, roses, baking spices and incense sticks. Tart, tangy, nice grit to the tannins, crunchy red and black currant, some blackberry, laced with smoke, incense, soil, and dried leaves. Time coaxes out nuances of backing spices, leather and some meat. Tangy and tart throughout, opens up nicely and day 2 was more smooth and expressive. 60% Cab, 30% Merlot, 10% Tannat.

Saturday Wine Mix-Tape (Washington, DC): Much darker on the nose, with black currants, loam, charcoal and vanilla. Medium-bodied, fresh acid combines with some gritty tannins. The black currant and dark plum fruit crackles on the palate. I get some dried leaves, black pepper and soy glaze flavors. Drinking well now, but perhaps this could improve in the cellar. A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Tannat.
