In the mood for a casual Bordeaux tonight..PnP, allowing it to open over the course of two hours. This has been in my cellar since release, have seen it evolve over the last decade. Always nice to "blow the dust off"a well stored bottle.
Like last bottle, this one had a fair amount of sediment, worth the strain and decant. Color is a medium garnet, some bricking at the edge.
Consistent with prior notes: "Lighter Bordeaux profile, earthy, dark fruits, cedar, floral/pencil/earth. Tart strawberry, cassis/licqueur, leather and vanilla on back/mid palate." This has a good red fruit driven profile, picking up some caramel. Tannins are mellowed, smooth and elegant mouthfeel.
Great example of why Bordeaux doesn't need to cost a fortune - I paid $21 for this when it was released, probably full retail... Its aged gracefully, becoming an expressive and enjoyable wine at full maturity.
Bumping the score up from my last tasting as this is right in its zone. The wine is fully mature, drink over next few years.
Slight bricking. Graphite and leather on the nose - very expressive from the off. Medium bodied, a hint of dark fruit remaining but fully mature flavour profile. Cedar, sweet tobacco, still has a little grip remaining from the tannins with smooth, clean finish. Very enjoyable.
Very pretty nose of red fruit, pencil lead, dried flowers, smoke. Light body, tart, very little tannin remaining, medium acid. Fully mature Bordeaux. Great for a low-priced wine. Drink now. Quite enjoyable.
