Dinner at Malbec in DC (Washington, DC): This was too fruity for me. The fruit was severely out of balance with the acid and tannins. It also had a candied quality that didnt really work for me. Those at the dinner that liked frutier wines liked this one. I also found it a little hot.

Colour: plum (purplish with dark red twinge) opaque. Slightly glass staining.
Aroma: Old world. Dead ringer for ‘Corton’ (I know seems crazy). Baked Basil, mint, strawberry old wood forest floor. After some time bergomont and then more violets and cassis.
Taste: black tea, hard herbs, rich tannins, plum compote all completly and perfectly integrated.
Drink now. With possibly another 3,4 or 5 years left.
A great wine, with a unique identity. I would recommend a rack of lamb served with roasted Mediterranean vegetables seasoned heavily with herbs, with perhaps a side of apricot or fig compote for the ultimate food pairing.

I dont know if its on the decline or I just got a bad bottle...it wasn't corked or spoiled in a traditional sense....but I got none of the nuance of the Carmenere flavors from prior tastings. This had more of a sweet/confection characteristic.
I am a fan of the wine so I will chalk this one up to a bad bottle

Perhaps a bit past its prime. Floral nose, velvety smooth mouthfeel, notes of stone fruit. Not a very long finish, perhaps due to the age.

A bit lean as the fruit goes away but nice mouthfeel. Some of the group really enjoyed it, but not my style as much anymore.
