  • I found a single bottle of this in my cellar. Took roughly half an hour to open up. This is quite lean, displays tobacco and olive notes, the fruit is dusty and clearly in the fall of its life. Medium bodied with moderate complexity, time to drink up.

  • Surprisingly I found a lot of chocolate in this wine and I am not looking for chocolate in Northern Rhone Syrah. I doubt new oak was applied chez Michel but did he change barrels this year? Also, I'm looking for more pepper, energetic black fruit, smoked meat and I don't find it here. The fruit is polished and lacks verve. Disappointing.

  • Second time I've had the '04. On the nose, one the nose, layers of smoked meat, charcoal, dried red fruits and spice. In the mouth, there's a nice mineral core surrounded by layers of ash, meat and baking spices, as well as dried fruits. This somewhat austere and certainly more earth-driven than fruity. Solid spine of acidity. Old-school stuff. Very Cornas-like, IMO. Nice.
