William Allen of TWO SHEPHERDS is adventurous and talented. Trousseau Gris is hardly a well known variety of vitis vinifera, yet he took the plunge and made a wine with it. This is a robust rose with an intense wild strawberry note, thoroughly delightful. It does not come across as weak strawberry water but rather emphatic. It seemed best after a decant, an hour of air exposure, and served rather cool, about 45 F, or 8 C. It has a wild salmon hue that got lighter in color with air.
Comparing this to another outstanding Rose, the Mourvedre based Dianthus of Tablas Creek, both of which have body and go with robust foods, I marginally prefer the Trousseau Gris. The Dianthus does seem the cleaner, more impeccably made wine. The Trousseau has more pluses as well as more minuses, but I just love the daring winemaking.

Very pretty copper pink color. Warm strawberry on the nose with a distinctly metallic edge. Playful on the palate but lacking a bit of acidity. Served with salmon tartare. Would classify in the "interesting w/o being outstanding" category
Initial pop and pour; dark salmon-pink in color due to the skin-fermented nature in the making of the wine; very pretty and darker than any Rose I've had; nose of warmed fresh strawberry and citrus with a mineral kick; very nice, rounded mouthfeel with a nice viscosity; flavors muted slightly but some citrus and watermelon, a bit buttery at times, more so than what I would expect from a TS wine but not in a bad way at all; also very different from other TS wines was there was not as much acid to this. As William put it, this is a "weird" wine, but very nicely made and a fun one to drink.
